Lorekeepers are drawn to the underlying structures that make a fictional world believable: its history, geography, cultures, religions, political systems, economies, languages, magic, and the relationships between all of those elements.
A Lorekeeper rarely wants something to exist simply because the plot requires it. They want to know why it exists, how it developed, what consequences it creates, and how it connects to everything around it. Where another writer might invent a kingdom, the Lorekeeper starts wondering how that kingdom feeds its population, who controls its resources, why its borders exist, what its people believe, and what happened centuries ago to create the conflict occurring today.
This makes Lorekeepers particularly strong at continuity, internal logic, immersive settings, and complex fictional systems. They often excel at identifying contradictions before those contradictions become problems in the manuscript.
Their greatest strength can also become their greatest obstacle. Lorekeepers may spend so much time constructing the world that they struggle to actually tell the story taking place within it. Research, planning, maps, timelines, family trees, histories, and lore can become a comfortable substitute for drafting.
Their growth comes from recognizing that worldbuilding exists to serve the story. Not every answer needs to appear on the page, and not every corner of the world needs to be completed before the characters are allowed to enter it.
